Company History

Finding Our Roots

The seed for Oak was planted in 1939 with the John T. McShain Company. During the 1940s and 1950s, McShain’s company became one of the biggest builders in the nation with his most noteworthy projects located in Washington, D.C. including the Jefferson Memorial (1939-41), Pentagon (1941-42), National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (1959), and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (1971).

1939-1971

Building Our Foundation

When McShain’s founding team left the Baltimore area in 1971 to focus on projects in their hometown market of Philadelphia, Senior Project Manager Thomas E. Grey stayed behind to take over the company in the Baltimore region.

The Grey Years

The late Thomas E. Grey was a Senior Project Manager for the John T. McShain Company at the time they left the Baltimore area.

1971-1988

The New Millenium

The new millennium brought a change in leadership for Oak. In 2005, Doug Eder, Gary Murphy, and Dave Rosas became the new owners of Oak Contracting. At this point, Oak began to focus mainly on Construction Management K-12 projects. During this time, Oak would serve as Construction Manager on 84 public school projects in the State of Maryland.

2000

Securing Our Future

At the start of 2024, Oak once again came under new leadership. Jonathan Goetz, Dave Toth, and Chris Marschhauser moved from Senior Project Managers to Oak’s new President and Vice Presidents. While looking towards the future, Oak will be going back to its roots and will be providing General Contracting, Construction Management and Design Build services.
